Jack has gotten pretty good at giving out nicknames. Last week, Nina and Ron came for a visit and Jack named them Ya Ya and Hoonie. They came with gifts--a big new fancy swimming pool with a slide and a great big ball that is a sprinkler. It was nice to have some help during the week. Jack's energy level has far surpassed mine at this point.
We spent the holiday weekend at home after three weekends on the road. There was a lot of grilling, kiddie pool playing, yard work and getting ready for the arrival of LB (Little Brother).
A couple of weeks ago, we drove down to Georgia to visit with David's brother's family as well as AnnMomma and Joe. Jack had a great time with his cousins and AnnMomma even came back with us to North Carolina for a few days. It rained the whole time she was here so we had to be creative with our activities.
We never get good pictures at weddings and this weekend was no exception. They are always of the backs of people's heads or completely out of focus. We went to Johnson City for my cousin's, Logan's, wedding. He married a very sweet girl in a very sweet ceremony and it was all very nice. It's a little strange to see him with that ring on his finger but we are really happy for them.
Jack really likes Misty. He cuddles with her whenever he can (sometimes a little inappropriately) and so he is very happy to have her as a permanent part of the family. At the wedding, he danced and danced (dancing=running around the room at top speed while waving his hands over his head) until he just couldn't even move. At seven months pregnant and chasing after a toddler, I found that night weddings aren't quite the party they used to be for me but we all had a really nice time.
We had a busy weekend with a cookout, a trip to IKEA and a garden to plant. Jack had a blast at the cookout, making dinner out of about six pieces of watermelon and three lemon bars. It ended with Jack being drug around on the pavement in a battery operated car, one leg on the ground. He was more upset about not being able to get back in the car than he was about his skinned up knee.
On Sunday we drove to the IKEA in Charlotte. There are not enough meatballs in Sweden to make that fun for an almost-two-year-old. When we got home, David and Jack planted their garden. Jack was pretty distracted by the watering cans and hose but David was very patient with him. He sectioned off part of the garden for Jack to "tend" and gave him a couple of his own plants. Jack's other backyard obsession is the bluebird house. We now have five baby bluebirds. The mother bluebird doesn't really like Jack and she buzzes him whenever he comes close to the house. He doesn't care. He check on his "babies" every day.
